Jersey Shore Is In a Textbook Now (Yes, Really)

And people say Jersey Shore is of no value to the world. MTV's smash-hit may be the butt of many jokes, but it's also sparked the interest of the more academically minded.

Last year, the University of Chicago — one of the top academic institutions in the country — hosted a conference where the best and the brightest dissected the reality phenomena from the point of view of sociology and cultural studies. And it didn't end there.

Recently, a fan tweeted this picture at Vinny, saying "Lmao! You know ur successful when your chapter 1 of a sociology textbook." Vinny retweeted, saying, "This is kind of Amazing."

Yes, Vinny. Yes it is.

This pic of the cast appears to accompany a chapter called "Sociology and the Real World." Could that be a reference to MTV's original hit reality show, The Real World? Maybe it's a chapter about the sociology of reality TV. Or maybe the point is that you can use apply sociology to anything.

Whatever this book is, we approve.

Jersey Shore Season 6 will premiere on Thursday, October 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
