The original Teen Mom cast and the cast of Jersey Shore are bidding adieu to their MTV shows this year, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the stars. Snooki, JWOWW, and Pauly D all have confirmed spin-offs and there is chatter going around that Maci Bookout and/or Catelynn Lowell might be getting their own solo shows. But, TV shows aside, which cast will be able to sustain their fame once the MTV cameras move on? Here are our arguments for both sides.

Jersey Shore

Why they’ll stay famous longer: The cast is already arguably more famous than the Teen Mom cast and each cast member has their own list of endorsements and side projects to help keep them afloat over the next year. Snooki, Pauly D, and The Situation, the most recognizable and highest-earning cast members of the hit show, are all pulling in millions of dollars each year. Plus, Snooki’s new baby and the possibility of rebranding herself as a mom (a la Kendra Wilkinson) might result in more TV shows, endorsements, and a longer fame shelf-life.

Why they won’t: The public is already starting to grow tired of the Jersey Shore crowd and are looking for a new show to capture their hearts. Ratings for Snooki & JWOWW and The Pauly D Project haven’t reached Jersey Shore-level ratings just yet, which might be a sign that people want to move on.

Teen Mom

Why they’ll stay famous longer: The celebrity baby craze means that people will love to watch the stars’ babies grow up and navigate through post-Teen Mom life. Like Snooki, each girl will have an opportunity to brand herself as a responsible, adorable mommy and that could mean baby-related endorsements and big deals. Plus, fans love a good redemption story and troubled star Amber Portwood is perfectly poised to make a comeback.

Why they won’t: The girls are scattered all around the country and most of them live in small cities that are frequented by the paparazzi or media types. It will be easy for these girls to sit back and fade into obscurity if they stay in their small towns.
