Yesterday (June 6), we reported on the rumor that Jersey Shore Season 6 would be the final season of the MTV hit. In Touch sourced an insider who claimed that producers announced the news to the cast, and they were in agreement: For Sammi, Ronnie, Deena Nicole, JWOWW, Snooki, The Situation, Pauly D, and Vinny, this summer would be their last on the show.

Now, Examiner reports that MTV “is not planning to cancel its most successful series ever.” Instead, a source tells them, “producers are hoping to re-cast the show with younger, fresh blood that hasn't reached their too-mature-for-the-Shore stage just yet.”

If true, this sounds like a wise move. On the Fourth of July this year, The Situation will turn 30. Pauly D will turn 32 the very next day. Snooki is about to start a family. Each of the castmates have their own lucrative businesses, and no longer need the paycheck. And really, how much longer can we watch the cast pretend to need their summer jobs at the Shore Store?

A new cast would mean a whole different show, but with the added benefit of a monstrously successful branding umbrella. Let’s hope there’s a meatball out there who can fill Snooki’s skyscraper wedges!

Catch the premiere of Snooki and JWOWW’s new spin-off on Thursday, June 21 on MTV.

The Pauly D Project airs Thursdays at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
