As many Jersey Shore fans know, The Situation checked into rehab two weeks ago for a prescription drug problem. The Sitch voluntarily checked himself in, but a source has told RadarOnline that Sitch's problem is more extensive than he originally admitted.

When he checked in for rehab, he said it was for Xanax and Ambien, but according to Radar's source, Sitch was also taking "unbelievable amounts of Dilaudid," a potentially extremely addictive prescription painkiller.

"Mike was taking about 20-30 pills a day which easily could have killed him," the source said. "Mike is very lucky that he didn't overdose and die."

This was not Sitch's first stint in rehab, and according to the source he shouldn't have been prescribed Dilaudid at all, because it can trigger relapses in people with a history of addiction.

According to the source, Mike "become dependent on prescription pills to counter-act his hard partying lifestyle, which included illegal substances. Mike was in a vicious cycle of not sleeping because of the illegal substances that he was taking, so he began using prescription pills to help him sleep." To make matters worse, mixing alcohol and these prescription drugs "obviously could have had a horrible outcome for him."

Wow. We're glad Sitch was self-aware enough to realize he needed outside help, because it sounds like he was traveling down a very dangerous road.
