Despite the ratings drop for The Pauly D Project since the series debuted on March 29, we still think that the Jersey Shore spin-off is a good sign for future spin-offs. Not to mention the fact that, stripped of all their Seaside Heights activities and parties, the cast of Pauly’s show is made up of real people with real lives that have been affected by fame.

Here are 5 reasons we think you should be tuning into The Pauly D Project.

We get to see the reality of being a Jersey Shore star. On Jersey Shore, each of the roommates has a certain amount of unspoken pressure to live up to the ridiculousness of everyone’s first impression of them: that they say whatever’s on their mind, no matter how outrageous, that they’re promiscuous, and that they drink a lot. But on The Pauly D Project, we get to see that Pauly D is more than his Jersey Shore caricature. He has a life that continues even when the Jersey Shore cameras stop rolling.

Pauly has feelings! In The Pauly D Project Season 1 premiere, we saw Pauly act vulnerable. He was nervous about getting his residency at The Palms, starting with the nerve-wracking audition process. We got to see how, as famous as he is, sometimes he’s just a guy trying to get a job.

It’s nice to take a break from the craziness of the Jersey Shore house and the summer scene. On The Pauly D Project, we get to see the business side to living a post-Jersey Shore life. Instead of an endless parade of parties, drunk girls, and goofing around at a retail job, we saw Pauly tackling real business, such as scoring the Palms gig or, as we learned last year, signing with 50 Cent’s label. Sometimes, watching Jersey Shore, it seems like the castmates don’t really do much except sit around and make jokes. But The Pauly D Project opened our eyes to the fact that they all work for a living.

His friends are hot. Not to knock Ronnie, The Situation, and Vinny, but we love seeing new faces, especially when they’re as foxy as Pauly’s crew. (Ryan and JROC, call us.)

It’s fun seeing all the behind-the-scenes action that goes on around the stars at big events. We got to see Pauly’s private moments. In the middle of a big party, it’s hard to remember that Pauly’s more than just a pretty face smiling. He’s working, he has to relax after a while, and it’s not all fun and games.

Catch the next new episode of The Pauly D Project on Thursday, April 26 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
