When rumors first surfaced that Jersey Shore Season 6 would be the final season, many thought that MTV would continue the highly successful franchise with a brand new group of guidos and guidettes. But Chris Linn, executive VP of programming at MTV, confirms that it just isn’t happening.

There are no plans for that at this time,” Chris tells Entertainment Weekly, when asked if the show would reboot with new faces. “We’ve always been clear that this cast is lightning in a bottle. I don’t think this is about format, for us it’s always been about this cast.”

Putting his vast knowledge of reality programming aside, it’s true that none of the Jersey Shore copycats have worked in other countries, or even in the US. A recent example was Oxygen’s Brooklyn 11223. That show premiered in March, but the cast remains unknown, and the buzz surrounding the show has died down considerably.

Fans will just have to face the fist-pumping music. The eight stars came together in a magical casting moment, and it would be next to impossible to plan magic in advance. We’ll just have to wait and see if lightning strikes again — somewhere other than Seaside.

Jersey Shore Season 6 will premiere on Thursday, October 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
