Jim Henson’s Youngest Son John Dies — He Starred in the Muppets Films

Sad news keeps coming for the family of famed Muppets creator Jim Henson, as Jim's youngest son, John Henson, has suddenly passed away of heart failure.

The Jim Henson Company has confirmed on their Facebook page that John, the son of the late Jim and Jane Henson, passed away on Valentine's Day. John was 48 years old.

"It is with great sadness that we confirm that John Henson, son of Jim and Jane Henson and brother to Lisa, Cheryl, Brian and Heather, died at age 48 of a sudden massive heart attack on Friday, February 14, while at home with his daughter," reads the Facebook message.

"John served as a shareholder and board member of The Jim Henson Company," continues the Facebook post. "He leaves two daughters, Katrina (15) and Sydney (10) and his wife, Gyongyi. A private service is being planned."

John was a Muppets puppeteer who played the nine-foot-tall ogre Sweetums in several of the Muppets movies. John provided the voice of Sweetums and performed in a body suit as the character for the movies Muppet Treasure Island, It's a Very Muppet Christmas Movie, and The Muppets' Wizard of Oz.

John's mother, Jane who created the Muppets characters with John died from cancer at age 78 last spring. Jim passed away in 1990 at age 53.

Our thoughts are with John's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
