Leave it to The Bachelorette producers to know a good thing when they see it! Season 10 contestant JJ O’Brien may seem like he dropped into Andi Dorfman’s group of guys out of the same pool where the rest came from, but a source tells Wetpaint Entertinament that’s not exactly true. The 6-foot-5 fella is gorgeous, super smart, creative, and hand-picked by producers — but wasn’t picked for Andi!
“They’ve been recruiting him to be on the show for ages,” a source close to the show tells us. How long is ages, you ask? Well, longer than you might think. “They really wanted him to be on Emily Maynard’s season!”
True, we know that many contestants are pulled right off the streets of their hometown and talked into joining the show, but it’s amazing to think that the 30-year-old Stanford MBA has been on their radar for so long. We can’t help but wonder what made him throw his name into the hat now, two years later.
A Life&Style report came out this week alleging that the owner of San Francisco-based clothing company Hem Haus is only there to promote his business, but it doesn’t sound like he started from the bottom, now he’s here. Although the Wetpaint source isn’t sure how JJ was first contacted, it’s clear that it was an aggressive pursuit that finally got him to sign on.
We’re huge fans of JJ’s so far, and loved his enthusiasm and mix of out-there style (nice fur vest, pal) and dorkiness. Considering Andi said in her People blog that she nearly gave him the First Impression Rose, we’re guessing she likes it, too.
What do you think of this information: do you feel like JJ joined for ulterior motives, or was this simply a matter of the producers finally wearing down a worthy candidate?
