Joan Lunden, Longtime Good Morning America, Has Breast Cancer (VIDEO)
Sad news today for the Good Morning America family. During a June 24 interview, Joan Lunden, longtime host of the national TV series, revealed she has breast cancer.
Joan, 63, spoke with current GMA host Robin Roberts, who’s allowed her own fight with breast cancer and other medical ups and downs to play out on the show.
“In the beginning, you almost feel like what did I do wrong?,” Joan tells Robin of her initial shock at the diagnosis. “Then I just turned a corner and said, ‘Wait a second. I’m a health advocate.’ I’m like, ‘Knock this off, learn everything you can about this, and go into warrior mode.’”
Joan co-hosted GMA from 1980 to 1997 and is a critically acclaimed author of eight books. She’s also a mother of seven including two sets of twins, born via surrogate in June 2003 and March 2005, respectively.
As for where her cancer currently stands, Joan says she has the “more aggressive kind,” meaning chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation are all a part of her treatment plan, which has already started.
Joan, let us just say we were amazed by your composure during this interview. Best of luck to you in the fight ahead!
