On last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Jon Hamm confirmed rumors that he’ll be undergoing throat surgery next week.
While we have no doubt that the beautiful bearded one will emerge from the operating room in even more pristine condition than ever (perhaps with a newfound talent for opera singing, or a killer Barry White impression in tow), the news hasn’t been such an easy pill to swallow for everyone in the Mad Men star’s life.
"I've got a polyp on my vocal chord. It sounds worse than it is, although it doesn't sound as bad as how the National Enquirer reported it, which was that I was coughing up blood and probably have cancer," said the actor. "I was like, 'That's good to put that out there. Thanks guys.' Because you know, I cough up blood—never."
“My sister called me and was like, ‘Something you want to tell us?’ I was like, ‘No, why?’” he asked. His sister explained, “‘Well, we just read that you're probably going to die.’”
A shocked Jon joked, "I was like, ‘Wait, when? Who have you been talking to?'"
Despite what has been reported so far, Jon insisted that the polyp removal is “a very routine procedure."
While he may not have any difficulty foreseeing the outcome of his surgery, the end of Mad Men remains a mystery to him.
“I’ve gotten sort of broad strokes as to how it will end. [Matthew Weiner] has a very, very specific idea as to what he wants to do… he likes it to be a secret, and I’m actually OK with that. We don’t know how our lives are going to end. I apparently will die of cancer, according to The National Enquirer — soon,” he laughed.
