Jonathan Adler Defaces Artwork for “Inspiration Point” (VIDEO)

In Jonathan Adler’s Aol style show Inspiration Point, the retailer and interior design personality shows us that he’s not afraid to tweak things to create a little design magic.

In the episode called Deface It he shows us that sometimes, messing with something typically thought of as precious can actually have amazing results. Jonathan displays what looks to be a flea market find of an oil painting featuring a grumpy looking old man dressed in somber clothing, and announces that he’s “going to mess with the little bastard.” We’re already intrigued!

He then reveals that he decided to deface the work by adding a ladies fabric hat, and then, in a twist that he reveals is inspired straight from Portlandia, he “puts a bird on it” by adding a cartoon parrot in an entirely different scale to ride on the man’s shoulder.

Jonathan’s inspiration to take something mundane and tweak it shows us how fun art can be when we’re fearless about it. We can’t wait to start popping some tags and ripping apart some flea market finds to try it out!
