Jonathan Groff’s Looking Premieres on HBO: How Were the Ratings?

Despite a primetime slot on HBO — right after the smash hit Girls Jonathan Groff’s new show Looking didn’t get off to the best start. Only 338,000 people tuned in to watch the show’s January 19 premiere, The Wrap reports.

It’s sad news for fans of Jonathan, who has guest starred in many a Glee episode as Rachel’s (Lea Michele) former love interest, Jesse St. James. The Broadway star, 28, has made a couple of forays into the world of TV in recent years, appearing on shows like The Good Wife. He landed a recurring role on Starz’s Boss in early 2012, only to see the show get cancelled later that year.

Poor premiere ratings aside, his newest show, Looking, has gotten tons of buzz. It centers around the love lives of three gay men living in San Francisco, and Jonathan has a leading role!

Looking, which aired at 10:30 p.m., had 58% less viewers than Girls at 10. Thankfully, there’s always next week! Even if Jonathan’s new show doesn’t take off like we’d all hope, the former Spring Awakening star’s career is still hot. He recently had the starring role in the indie movie C.O.G., and he voices a lead role in Disney’s Frozen, making him the first Disney prince to be voiced by an openly gay actor.

In short, Jonathan has a lot of things to be celebrating right now. We’re just not sure yet if Looking is going to be one of them.
