We don't know if Caesar Martinez will make it out of Season 4, Episode 7: "Dead Weight" alive, but we know that actor Jose Pablo Cantillo's career will be alive for a good long while. The Indiana native built up his acting chops in off-Broadway plays and TV procedurals before getting his big break as Duff Gonzalez in the action TV series Standoff. Now, from Crank to Sons of Anarchy, Jose is everywhere.
Here are five things you may not have known about The Walking Dead actor Jose Pablo Cantillo.
He Played Tennis in High School. When you think about it, being a tennis champ isn't that different from whacking zombies with a baseball bat! While a student at South Vigo High School in Terre Haute, Indiana, Jose led his team to the state championship in 1996, where they placed as a runner-up.
He Studied Martial Arts. Okay, this probably helped more with whacking zombies than playing tennis. Jose credits his deftness with the bat to his study of Jeet Kune Do. "I had several of years of practice with the kali stick — a stick with a size and length similar to a baseball bat," he told AMC. "It might be a little bit different, but a secret that I’ll let you in on is that on-set we’d swap out the bat for a rubber bat, which is actually weighted like a kali stick."

He Was One Half of the First Gay, Married TV Couple in Space. That's a mouthful of a milestone, but it's true! Speaking of his TV movie Virtuality, Jose was asked by The Backlot if he knew how groundbreaking his character was. "Yes and no," he responded. "I’d heard some rumors that we were the first openly gay characters in space, and then we were wrapped and done, they said, 'No, it’s actually the first show to have an actual married couple.'"
Jose went onto say that the role "personalized" the gay marriage issue for him.
