Joseph Morgan Dishes About Klaroline: “There’s Got to Be Some Kind of Resolve”

Out of the entire Vampire Diaries universe, one of the most passionate followings is the most unlikeliest of ‘ships — Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola). Klaroline fans are extremely passionate, and when it was announced Klaus was leaving Mystic Falls and heading to New Orleans for The Originals, things looked grim for the couple’s future.

“It was more than I thought it would be,” Joseph told Just Jared Jr. about the overwhelming support from fans. “It wasn’t supposed to be, I think, as big of a thing in the beginning. Although, I always wanted a love interest for him or a focus for his affections because I felt like it would allow me to explore different aspects to the character that we haven’t seen.”

But even though it took a few seasons for Klaus to finally get a love interest, that doesn’t mean that the original hybrid has been emotionless the whole time. “We’ve seen a little bit in terms of his siblings and how he felt about them, but not in that way,” Joseph said.

The adorable actor went on to say that the biggest threat to the spin-off was breaking this beloved couple up. “I was like, ‘We shot ourselves in the foot by making it too convincing.’ But you know, everybody is aware of it. It’s not like we’re like, ‘Oh, people care about that? Really?’”

And is there a glimmer of hope for Klaroline fans out there? “We’re building something here and it will be referred to. It’s not like we’re like, “Well, that’s done. Forget everything we built up and you invested in,’” Joseph said. “I think there’s got to be some kind of resolve. But yeah, for me it was a surprise how much people responded to it.”
