We’ve long lamented the wasted crossover opportunities between The Vampire Diaries and its spinoff The Originals, but Joseph Morgan (Klaus Mikaelson) has a brilliant idea that would begin to make up for the thus far uninspired crossover attempts. He wants Enzo (Michael Malarkey) to visit New Orleans — and we think it’s a great idea!

“I’m sure they will use another crossover because why wouldn’t they?” Joseph told Just Jared about future TVD/The Originals crossovers. “It’s a wonderful opportunity. It might be nice to see another character that I don’t have a history with. I like Michael Malarkey, who plays Enzo on Vampire Diaries. I’d love him to cross over just ’cause I’d get to spend more time with him then, he’s a good bloke.”

We were just complaining about the underutilization of Enzo this season, despite his status as a series regular. The vampire has stirred up some trouble in Mystic Falls, but he hasn’t had many satisfying story arcs to call his own. Perhaps a trip to NOLA could change that. He would fit right in with the culture of hastily justified violence in the supernatural French Quarter, no?

As for the future of TVD/The Originals crossovers, we hope the shows do more to explore and have fun with their shared fictional universe. The Flash and Arrow demonstrated just how rewarding crossover events can be. Their first two-hour crossover event not only did well in the ratings, but managed to make but shows better creatively, too. Take notes, TVD and The Originals! You can do better. (And this isn’t just our Klaroline-shipping hearts talking.)

Would you like to see Enzo cross over to The Originals? Do you think TVD and The Originals should do more crossovers in general? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. The Originals airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
