On March 31, Team Shakira singers Josh Murley and Patrick Thomson belted out a duet to “Run to You” by Bryan Adams. Making this the battle of former Team Adam contestants, Shakira paired the two together hoping that each guy would be able to prove why they belonged in the competition.
Initially, Shakira thought that Josh owned the the rock and roll song. However, after guidance from Shak and mentor Chris Martin, Patrick was able to show that he could sing the song with just as much conviction — and he even threw in a couple moves with his mic stand.
On the night of the battles, both Team Adam-turned-Team Shakira contestants took the stage with the 1984 rock ballad with tons of passion.
Coach Adam Levine was impressed with Josh, whom he thought showcased a completely new side of himself (range included). Adam noted that Patrick still needed a little work, but really came through. Blake Shelton was happy to see both men shine during the battle, but gave the battle to Patrick after opening up his vocals. Usher thought that both men came out strong and threw tactics with their singing that both propelled and hindered their performance. Shakira agreed with Usher that both men were evenly matched in the battle, but the singer had to choose one singer to advance to the live shows and that was Patrick.
