Has Juan Pablo Galavis not quite learned his lesson that commenting on someone's sexuality can be dangerous territory? Indeed, the Bachelor Season 18 star is offering his two cents about gay NFL prospect Michael Sam.
As you may recall, Juan Pablo found himself in hot water back in January for saying that he didn't think there should ever be a gay Bachelor. "I don’t think it’s a good example for kids to watch that on TV," Juan Pablo said at the time, adding that gays are "more pervert."
Now, Juan Pablo is weighing in on Michael Sam, the college football standout who publicly came out as gay earlier this year. Michael was drafted in the seventh round of this weekend's NFL draft, putting him on track to become the first openly gay athlete to play in the league.
"Watching SportsCenter Decision Day for @MikeSamFootball, SAD the NFL made a BIG deal of his Sexual Orientation," Juan Pablo tweeted on May 10. "He is a FOOTBALL player..."
Certainly, this comment is thankfully not as incendiary as Juan Pablo's January remarks. And we appreciate that Juan Pabs wants Michael to be judged on his football ability, rather than on his personal life.
Still, while it's nice to think that a professional athlete coming out as gay can someday not be a big deal, we think it's important that Michael came out publicly so that other young athletes aren't ashamed to be who they are. And so we hope Juan Pablo isn't suggesting that Michael should have kept his orientation to himself.
How do you feel about Juan Pablo's tweet?
