America’s Next Top Model Judge Kelly Cutrone: Models Are Only Thin Because That’s What People Want

America's Next Top Model judge Kelly Cutrone is famous for her biting snark and refusal to sugarcoat harsh truths, and she's at it again. The PR star recently dished some thoughts on Cycle 20's male models, and what it takes to make it in the difficult modeling world.

While male models on a whole actually make less money than female models (which is actually very unusual — in most fields, it's the other way around) Kelly is positive there's still plenty of room for male supermodels. "Of course, women's advertising, and women's beauty are huge ... But, you know, when you have a hot male model and you're doing an ad for Dolce & Gabbana — any brand — the combination of male and female model can really push a brand's reach."

That said, Kelly also laid out some harsh truths that run a bit counter to Tyra's rah-rah, everyone is beautiful, anyone can be a model mantra. "If you're 5'6", just stay home," she said. "Don't pretend you're 5'8" or 5'9"." She added that shorter models might have a shot at beauty modeling, but runway is off the table. Likewise, she suggests models over 25 who haven't already made it stick to regional work, because national probably isn't gonna happen.

"These are the things no one ever wants to say, because they're mean, but it's true," Kelly explained.

Speaking of things that Kelly thinks are true, she argues that while fashion models are all very, very thin, "that trend comes from the consumers — it does not come from the fashion industry."

But ... where do the consumers get the idea that thin equals desirable in the first place...?

What do you think about Kelly's statements? Sound off in the comments below.

Catch the ANTM Cycle 20 premiere on Friday, August 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
