Simon Cowell Discusses Fatherhood at One Direction Premiere
Typically X Factor judge Simon Cowell can’t keep his opinions to himself, but in the weeks since the news broke that he and his close friend’s wife were expecting a child together, the notorious reality TV star has been uncharacteristically silent. That is, until now.
Simon discussed his unexpected fatherhood while attending the London premiere of boy band One Direction’s new film. 1D, you’ll recall, is Simon’s pet project from his days on the UK version of The X Factor; the band is signed to his label Syco Records.
“Things are changing in my life right now,” Simon told the BBC in the understatement of the year.
“I’m proud to be a dad,” he added with a slight smile. “[It’s] something I haven’t thought of before and now I know I feel good about it.” Simon called baby mama Lauren Silverman “a very special girl” but didn’t discuss her recently finalized divorce from Simon’s (former?) bestie and fellow millionaire Andrew Silverman.
Simon, who has no other children, also kept quiet on one other important point: Whether the couple is expecting a boy or a girl. Personally, we have our fingers crossed for a daughter Simon can name after famous American Idol frenemy Paula Abdul.
