UPDATE: On May 18, sources close to Justin told TMZ he's now off sizzurp and has been clean for a month. The sources said he's become obsessed with working out and that's hard to do when high. They also said the now 20-year-old star has been spending more time in the last month with his mom and manager, Scooter Braun, and he kept his distance from them "during his sizzurp binges." Hopefully this update is true and JB stays clean, and surrounded by positive influences. Keep it up!

Original story (1/18/14):

Are Justin Bieber's problems more serious than teen punk vandalism and maybe hanging out with the wrong crowd?

TMZ was told by "multiple credible, connected sources" that Justin, 19, is abusing drugs — including regular use of sizzurp, as well as prescription pills like Xanax.

This is all allegedly done in addition to regular alcohol and marijuana use. It's gotten to the point, the sources claim, that it's making Justin’s behavior erratic and worried members of his team have urged him to go to rehab. (That monkey is probably relieved he’s sitting out all this drama.)

However, in an interesting note, the sources insist Justin does not do cocaine and has never done cocaine. So he shot the sheriff but not the deputy.

Justin's friend Lil Za was arrested on January 14, at JB’s own house, on a felony drug possession charge. At first, police thought the drug confiscated was cocaine, but they later said it was probably Molly; they were testing the drug to be sure. They also found Xanax, which police believed to also belong to Lil Za.

Because all Justin Bieber news gets weirder as it goes along, Supernatural star Jared Padalecki weighed in after that Lil Za arrest, tweeting, "Hey @justinbieber, how much are you paying your friend for pretending that it was HIS cocaine, and taking the fall for you?"

Jared later spoke at the Golden Globes about getting a backlash from Justin's loyal Beliebers. "'I was like, 'Uh, Justin Bieber's buddies are gonna beat me up.' It was like, 'Don't touch our idol! I was like, 'I was as just kinda sending a joke… Listen, I have a world full of 12-year-olds trying to kill me. So watch my back!"

Justin’s world is a strange place, but the megastar is a huge influence on his young fans. He does do a lot of good in the world, which endears him to his trusty defense squad, but drug use is no joke. Even if you don’t believe these sources about Justin’s own behavior, at the very least he’s hanging out with people arrested for having drugs. What is it going to take before he hears the wake-up call?
