What happens when two of the biggest pop stars — with two of the most rabid fan bases on the internet — release a duet? Brace yourselves, because we’re about to find out. Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande might be releasing pop music’s next great pop collaboration — and we couldn’t be more excited.
While most of his peers, including Ariana, were storming the stage at the 2014 iHeartRadio Awards on Thursday night (May 1), Justin was passing the time on Instagram. Hinting at a possible duet with Ari, the Biebs posted, “Congrats @arianagrande on your number 1 song.#arianabieberduet ??,” along with a photo of the two in the studio.
Now, this could be a coincidence, or it could be the real thing. Back in April, Ariana’s manager Scooter Braun — yep, he manages Bieber too! — tweeted, “the musical collaborations taking place in la tonight....wow. beyond excited.” Could that be when this studio pic was taken?
Ariana’s latest single with rapper Iggy Azalea, “Problem,” is poised to take the no. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and the 20-year-old is only gaining momentum thanks to performances at the 2014 iHeartRadio Awards and the 2014 Radio Disney Music Awards. As for Bieber, well, his image could use a bit of boost — and what better way to do that than by releasing a chart-topper with Ariana?
Say what you want about Justin’s questionable behavior, but the 20-year-old can sing. His smooth vocals mixed with Ariana’s breathy vibrato would be like heaven to our ears. We’re calling it right now: if a collaboration is in the works, it’s going to be the song of the summer.
