Even the Canadians have turned against Justin Bieber! The 20-year-old London, Canada, native got a rather rude greeting back home during the 2014 Juno Awards.
Pretty much the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys, the Junos annually recognize the major achievements of Canada’s top musicians, a category in which at least some of the Biebs’ countrymen don’t think he belongs.
Upon receiving the Juno Fan Choice Award for the fourth straight year in a row, Justin was booed by a large portion of the crowd. The result is uncomfortable and totally not what we expected from our famously nice neighbors to the north. Thankfully for Justin’s fragile psyche, he didn’t attend the event so skipped facing down the naysayers in person.
There was one fan of Justin’s in the audience, however. Fellow award winner of the evening Serena Ryder gave a major shout-out to the Biebs in her acceptance speech for Artist of the Year. “I really think that Justin Bieber is an amazing musician and that he deserved every bit of that award because he’s been working his ass off his entire life,” she said to high-pitched cries of support.
Listen to what else Serena had to say and the initial round of boos in the video above. If you listen close enough, you might be able to make out the faint sounds of sobbing coming from somewhere near Justin’s house in Atlanta.
