Usher on Justin Bieber: "I Hate Some of the Things I Hear" (VIDEO)

When we think about Justin Bieber now, it’s easy to forget that not long ago, he was just a little Canadian tween, plucked from YouTube by Usher for his record label. Fast forward a few years, and he’s one of the most controversial guys in music at only 20 years old. So how does The Voice coach feel about his protégé now?

Usher opened up to Nylon Guys this month about his own history with being a teen idol, which has helped him to empathize with the Biebs. He himself moved to NYC at age 15 to work with Sean “Diddy” Combs on his first album, so he knows how important it is to have a strong mentor in the often-trying industry.

"I gave every bit of advice and always told him it was up to him if he really wanted this. Now that he has it, as an adult, it's his to manage," Usher reveals to the magazine. "Do I turn my head in shame based off of what I see, what I know? Nah, I don't because it's all part of life's process. Am I in it with him? Yeah."

Nice to see him sticking by little man’s side, as he could certainly use the support right now. However, just because he’s got the “Confident” singer’s back doesn’t mean he always agrees with the antics he finds himself in — most seriously: assault and DUI arrests, along with accusations of vandalism and attempted robbery.

"It's unfortunate," Usher says of Justin’s run-ins with the law. "I hate some of the things I hear. Is it all true? I don't know. But I will tell you this: Success comes with a price. Every person that has grown up, grows up with something. It ain't just perfect from the beginning."

Would you be as forgiving of Justin if you were Usher? Tell us in the comments below.
