Justin Guarini Talks Romance With Kelly Clarkson During American Idol

From Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart to Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, we viewers always seem to enjoy shows more when we know that the two leading characters are actually an item.

Way back in Season One of American Idol, we hoped for the very same thing between Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini but they never let on they were officially together… until now. The truth has finally come out and, according to Yahoo! and Justin himself, the two were more than just friends while filming their box office abomination From Justin to Kelly. We give you... K-Guar!

Although back in the day Justin insisted the two were merely friends, even saying she was like a “sister” to him, the 35-year-old finally confessed the truth in his new one-man cabaret act Lovesick during a Pennsylvania showing. The well-reviewed act involved cover songs that were handpicked by Justin interspersed with anecdotes from his life.

From what Lovesick audience members have said, Justin revealed sparks began to fly while he and Kelly were on the show but their relationship didn’t get serious until the movie. Things went sour, however, when she soared to stardom and he did not. Apparently, the sorrow he felt was palpable during Lovesick and, according to RadarOnline.com, his “heartbreak” over the end of their romance was the “highlight of the show.” Justin dedicated an obviously heartfelt version of “Get There” to Kelly, a ballad he became known for during his run on Idol.

Justin’s affections weren’t solely directed at Kelly during Idol, however, as he reportedly revealed he also had a brief fling with contestant Tamyra Gray. The scandal!

As the Yahoo! article points out, all three are now happily married to other people. Kelly is expecting a baby with new hubby Brandon Blackstock. Tamyra is married to songwriter and ex-Color Me Badd member Sam Watters. Justin has two children with wife Reina Capodici, to whom he dedicated Leon Russell’s “A Song For You” to close his one-man act.

The show’s positive reviews and the fact that Justin recently landed the role of Fiyero in Broadway’s Wicked have gotten this alum’s name back in the news. In fact, Justin has even talked to Oprah Winfrey on her OWN network about his struggle with post-Idol depression, depression it now sounds like was tinged with missing Kelly sadness.
