James Van Der Beek may have brought the whiny goody two shoes Dawson Leery to life in the 90s, but it doesn’t mean he isn’t willing to help teens get around the rules once in awhile… especially if they’re in a boyband.

When James recently sat down with Huffington Post Live, he revealed that he may or may not have helped the boys of N’Sync break the law while they were still minors — even though his efforts only went so far.

“I was in Vegas one New Year’s and somebody came by and said ‘N’Sync wants to meet you!’” James recounts. “And at the time, N’Sync was the second to Backstreet Boys, it was before they had blown up. They had just came out with some Christmas album, like at the same time 98 Degrees did.”

By “some Christmas album,” James obviously means “Home For Christmas,” featuring the fantastic song, “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays,” which we still jam out to every year while wrapping presents and waiting for Santa. It could get the Grinch in the holiday spirit. That album was musical genius. But we’ll forgive your lapse in taste, James.

“And I met them and they were so sweet, they were so nice. They were such cool kids and I immediately liked them,” James continues. “I remember that night, we were all going to some club and they were all too young. So I went in and somehow passed my ID back so that Justin could get in with my ID.”

And it didn’t stop there!

“Justin got in and then tried to pass it off to Lance to get in,” James says. “By the third time [the bouncers] saw a James Van Der Beek ID, they were like, ‘Ah, I don’t think so, James.’”

But it’s the thought that counts. And hey, now those guys can all get into the club with their own IDs — 90s teen drama stars not required.
