Just days before Teen Mom 2’s Kailyn Lowry’s emotional tell-all memoir, Pride Over Pity, hits bookshelves this April 22, details from her past are finally coming out of the woodwork, and you guys, it’s heartbreaking. Aside from her traumatic experiences with abortion and rape, Kailyn reveals her battles with anorexia and bulimia.
She admits in the book that her issues with her weight began when her alcoholic mother, Suzi, gave Kailyn the nickname, Chunky Monkey. “Don’t most body image issues start at home? Mine did,” she writes.
Kailyn’s introduction to eating disorders was then aided by a fellow classmate who sufffered from anorexia and bulimia. The Teen Mom admits that’s when she took the same path in order to deal with her body image.
“She encouraged me to start down the same path. We were a pair of anorexic teenagers who became caught up in an unhealthy trend,” she explains in the book. “I didn’t want to weigh triple digits.”
Despite becoming healthy during her pregnancy with Isaac (who is now 4 years old), Kailyn also admits that once Teen Mom 2 first aired on MTV in January 2011, cyber-bullying forced her to revisit her old unhealthy habits. “I stopped eating or opted for minimal items,” she says. “I’d chew a piece of gum that’s only five calories. I’d drink water to fill up my stomach.”
We can’t say we’re surprised over the shocking revelations. Back in 2012, Kailyn revealed to Wetpaint Entertainment the lengths she would go through in order to drop her unwanted pounds. "I would go on bouts where I wouldn't eat or try to make myself throw up. At this point, I am so comfortable with where I am right now."
We’re happy to see Kailyn is at a much happier place with her body now. If her Beauty Is Sizeless campaigns don’t say enough, we’re not sure what will!
