Kanye West isn’t shy about his opinions, and it seems the one he’s most committed to is his belief that he is a genius to end all geniuses.
The 36-year-old rapper, who is nearly as well-known for his epic rants as he is for his music, explained his position to the guest at the Cannes Lions film festival on Tuesday.
Kanye told the crowd of his recent wedding Instagram photo with wife Kim Kardashian, that, after famed photographer Annie Leibovitz opted not to shoot their wedding, Kanye and Kim took matters into their own hands.
“I was like, ‘I still want my wedding photos to look like Annie Leibovitz’s photos,’ and we sat there and worked on that photo for four days, because the flowers were off-color and stuff like that … [that’s] how important Kim is to the internet.”
Of course, Kanye wasn’t satisfied in simply complimenting his wife and his own art direction — he needed to drive his point home with some praise for his own work.
“If people are saying you’re wrong, it’s probably a good sign you’re genius,” he gloated. “Rome wasn’t built in a day; the Internet is our new Rome. Empower the best content creators or f—k you!”
We’ll need a little more proof before we can definitively say that Kanye’s a genius at art direction, but if they gave out awards for bragging, we’re sure he’d win first place every time.
