Cue the couch-jumping, because Kanye West is crazy about Kim Kardashian and he’s not afraid to let the world know.
The newly engaged musician opened up to Ryan Seacrest during a radio appearance on October 29 about how he sees himself and his bride-to-be. In the interview, Kanye reveals that he believes the media is trying to hold him and Kim back from achieving their full potential for a variety of factors, including Kim’s status as a “reality show girl.”
“It’s not fair that I don’t have infrastructure for what I want to to do in clothing because I’m crazy influential … It’s the Michael Jackson glass ceiling when he couldn’t get his videos played because he was considered to be urban,” he tells Ryan. “The reason why I’m not able to create what I want to create is about being black and is about classism. And that’s that wall when I took [Kim] to the Met Ball and they put it up on Vogue.com and tried to say she wasn’t there because they didn’t want a reality show girl there.”
Despite Hollywood’s alleged prejudice against his fiancée, Kanye says that she’s got more influence than most of the tastemakers out there combined.
“Or like with the Hollywood Walk of Fame … it’s not the walk of singing … it’s the Walk of Fame … and classism has been going on before racism. We’re classist. We have our cool table … and there’s no way Kim Kardashian shouldn’t be on the cover of Vogue. She’s like the most intriguing woman right now. She’s got Barbara Walters calling her like everyday … and collectively we’re the most influential with clothing. No one is looking at what [President] Obama is wearing. Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a [bikini] pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day… so it’s to say when we are there and [former editor-in-chief of French Vogue] Carine Roitfeld supports my girl, that’s a breakthrough … there’s a wall of classism that we are breaking through.”
Kanye, who adds that he will wear a wedding ring once he’s married and will share his last name with Kim, says that, despite his busy schedule, he’ll be “very involved” in the wedding plans, which he’d like to have co-coordinated by Chanel’s creative team.
As for how he copes with the stress of fatherhood, wedding planning, and a high-profile career, Kanye says that he while he may be a modern mogul, he deals with his problems the old-fashioned way — with a bit of liquor and a few deep breaths.
“Just drink!” he laughs. “I’m sure I’m not supposed to say that, but I drink Grey Goose. And I’m not getting paid anything from them, but I’m going to tell you as a man — and they said Shakespeare was like a drunk and yes, I said that to blatantly compare myself to Shakespeare — you know, I’m not perfect. And certain mornings or in the evening, and I’m not a falling over drunk, but I’ll pour a little Goose, grab some ice cubes, and just practice patience.”
