Kanye West opens up about his relationship with baby mama Kim Kardashian in a rather candid interview with the New York Times.

The rapper admits that he knows “90 percent of the time it looks like I’m not having a good time," but assured the paper he’s actually quite happy in his personal life. "Any woman that you’re in love with or that loves you is going to command a certain amount of, you know, energy," Kanye said. "It’s actually easier to focus, in some ways."

In fact, with his new album Yeezus debuting June 18, Kim might deserve some inspirational credit. "I’m the type of rock star that likes to have a girlfriend, you know?" Kanye said. "I’m the type of soul that likes to be in love and likes to be able to focus. And that inspires me."

And when asked about the scene on last season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in which he forces Kim to throw out her old wardrobe so he can buy her a new one, he points to this as the reason he doesn't want to be a part of the show anymore. "That was from a place of love. It’s hard when people read things in a lot of different ways. You know, the amount of backlash I got from it is when I decided to not be on the show anymore," he said. "And it’s not that I have an issue with the show; I just have an issue with the amount of backlash that I get. Because I just see like, an amazing person that I’m in love with that I want to help."

Kanye said he "would do anything to protect my child or my child's mother," and says he doesn't want to really discuss fatherhood because he isn't actually a father yet. "Well, I just don't want to talk to America about my family. Like, this is my baby. This isn't America's baby."
