Kylie Jenner will turn 16 on August 10, and she and mom Kris Jenner are evidently hard at work prepping for an over-the-top sweet 16 party at downtown L.A.’s AT&T Center. Kylie, the youngest sibling in the Kardashian clan, will reportedly welcome 100 guests to her birthday shindig, all of whom will walk away from the event with some seriously fancy goodie bags.

The catch? According to the New York Daily News, the Kardashians aren’t paying a penny for any of the swag they’ll be handing out. Instead, Kris has been pimping out her daughter’s birthday party as a publicity opportunity for the companies they’ve approached.

“A source tells Confidenti@l that in usual Kris style, she had her camp email Brand Placement L.A. — which helps companies get products on TV, in movies and into the hands of celebs — saying they were “canvassing” people and businesses to contribute gifts for Kylie’s birthday bash,” reports the paper.

“The email says the party will be filmed for Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” says the News’s source. “They have no shame. She said that the party will be televised on E! and that the donated gift items will also appear on Kylie’s blog, which goes out to 500,000 people a day. In addition, Kylie will take a picture in front of the gift table.”

Ugh! We’re mere mortals down here, but something about this just seems wrong! Even more wrong than Kylie getting a $125,000 Mercedes while she’s still has only a learner’s permit.

What do you think, is this a trashy ploy for free stuff from a family that can afford anything they want? Or is this just the way things are done, in the land of the rich and famous? Weigh in below!
