The Kardashians may have built the world’s most impressive reality empire with their unique mix of family bonding and drama, but it seems as though the family business may soon be getting ready to close up shop.
RadarOnline.com reports that, after eight seasons on air, Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ viewership numbers are falling dramatically, and network executives are getting ready to pull the plug on the former ratings giant.
Sunday’s show only brought in an audience of 1.79 million viewers, a steep decline from past seasons, which had brought in upwards of 4 million viewers.
A TV insider claims, “This is looking really bad for the Kardashians and their show… When Kendra Wilkinson’s show dropped below 1 million viewers they dropped it, so the Kardashian reality show is definitely in trouble.”
Despite the speculation, it seems that the Kardashians have weathered worse storms without being canceled in the past. The show’s first two seasons brought in similar viewer numbers while managing to pave the way for spin-offs Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, and Khloe & Lamar.
However, despite the probable career security of the show’s stars, both Kim and Rob Kardashian have expressed their desire to quit while they’re ahead. Rob recently revealed to the Wall Street Journal that he “[doesn’t] necessarily care about the show” while Kim told DuJour magazine in March that she planned to leave KUWTK after season nine.
Do you think the Kardashians should leave the show behind?
