Babies, alleged drug addictions, cheating scandals, separations, paternity rumors, and over-the-top engagements may be enough to get people to tune into soap operas every week, but it doesn’t seem to be enough to get people to keep up with the Kardashians. While the show has always maintained relatively abysmal reviews from critics, it seems that former fans of Keeping Up with the Kardashians are now making a mass exodus from their couches on Sunday evenings, leaving the show’s viewership numbers lower than ever.
RadarOnline.com reports that, despite all of the potential ratings-boosting turmoil that’s gone on with the family over the past year, the Season 8 finale pulled in only 1.96 million viewers, down from the 4.67 who tuned in for the Season 5 premiere. It seems as though, while many have a “love-to-hate them” mentality about the first family of reality TV, their personal failures don’t actually entice fans. When Kim’s marriage to Kris Humphries was imploding in front of audiences, viewership took another major dip.
In total, the show is only drawing 2.4 million viewers per episode, nearly a million less than in Season 5. If the numbers keep going south, it looks like the family could lose their lucrative reality empire once and for all.
Do you think that declining viewership will lead to the show’s cancellation?
