Kim Kardashian’s recent debut at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala was big celebrity news even before the big day. But when she hit the red carpet on Kanye West’s arm, rocking a floor-length floral concoction complete with thigh-high slit and built-in gloves, fashionistas and celebrity gossip rags nearly lost their minds.
Given the bold floral pattern, Kim was compared to an old sofa, a curtain, and even Mrs. Doubtfire, but one person who stands by the look is the man who created it with her: Givenchy designer (and big Kim and Kanye fan) Riccardo Tisci.
“I said, we should give her our punk moment with a romantic beautiful flower-printed dress,” he said. “I have dressed many pregnant women in the past. People can say what they want. To me, pregnancy is the most beautiful thing in the world, and when you celebrate, you give people flowers." Aww! Riccardo went on to praise the reality star's appearance at the Gala. "I think she looked amazing. She was the most beautiful pregnant woman I dressed in my career."
Wow! Sorry, Kim haters, but if the designer for a major fashion house like Givenchy stands by what Kim was wearing, the rest of us can pretty much move on. Sure, everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but we’re sure someone of Tisci’s fashion caliber wouldn’t send his grandmother’s sofa down the runway — or the red carpet.
