Giving acting a try may not have worked out for very many NBA stars. (Case in point: Shaq as a rapping genie in Kazaam. We rest our case!) But Lamar Odom apparently believes he has the thespian skills needed to buck the trend, and he's apparently toying with giving up basketball altogether to make that happen.
Less than a year ago, the notion of Lamar quitting b-ball for good would have been crazy talk. Then with the Lakers, Lamar was playing some of the best basketball of his life, as his Sixth Man Award in the 2010-11 season (given to the league's best bench player) would attest. However, since the end of last season, the big man has had some tough professional days, getting traded to the Mavs at the start of the season and then ultimately released by the Mavs earlier this year. These on-court struggles have reportedly led Lamar to believe that his playing days may be behind him, according to Hollywood Life.
And now that his extended family has just inked that whopping $40 million deal to stay on the air for the next three years, Lamar is thinking that his reality-TV fame would help him to follow in the footsteps of previous actors who came from other fields, like Ice Cube and Ice-T. (Come to think of it, maybe Lamar should change his name to something with the word "ice" in it, just to be on the safe side?) And if not acting, Lamar would also be interested in sports commentating.
How does the fam feel about this? Apparently, Kris Jenner could not be happier. Frankly, we feel that Lamar still has some good playing years left in him, but who's to say who couldn't try his hand at acting, too? Let's not forget that there was a time when Arnold Schwarzenegger and The Rock were only known for their athletic prowess.
And surely you didn't forget former NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's memorable performance in the classic '80s comedy Airplane? (You're like, "We didn't forget about Kareem, and please don't call us Shirley.")
Long story short: Did someone say, Space Jam 2?
