The internet was abuzz with news of a major NBA trade involving three teams: The Lakers, New Orleans Hornets, and Houston Rockets. Now, The Los Angeles Times reports that the NBA has called off the deal, reportedly after league commissioner David Stern faced pressure from team owners. The official league party line is that the trade was rejected "for basketball reasons."
In the proposed trade, Lakers Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol would have gone to the New Orleans Hornets and Houston Rockets, respectively, with guard Chris Paul coming to L.A. from New Orleans. Lamar, who is married to reality star Khloe Kardashian, tells The LA Times he's in 'disbelief" after hearing his team was jockeying to trade him, and initially thought the news was a lie.
“I guess that means I’m a Laker if the trade didn’t go through,” Lamar says, adding: “I don’t know what to do for the Lakers. I’m even weirded out by the league doing what they did. I don’t know what to do.” Lamar says he doesn't plan on returning to practice tomorrow, explaining: "You don’t want to go to no place you’re not wanted. I’ll try to give them what they want as much as possible.”
Late Thursday night Lamar tweeted this inspirational message: "Im just going 2 stay positive and say thank u! The positive energy is what I live for and the negative energy I will just continue 2 eat!"
