When it comes to Lamar Odom’s recent departure, Mavs owner Mark Cuban has some words of tough love for the basketball star. At a recent press conference, the basketball impresario spoke candidly about Lamar’s departure from the team.
"We tried. It didn't work. We move on," Cuban remarked at a recent press conference that was recorded by ESPN Radio.
. “...Every player goes through ups and downs. We try and put them in a position to succeed. You saw what we did — it didn't work.”
As for why it didn’t work? Many speculate Lamar’s reality show Khloe & Lamar took his head out of the game. Although he wouldn’t blame the show specifically, Cuban says life in the limelight “possibly” had an adverse effect on the power forward, reports ESPN. “I do think that if you know you’re on camera all the time, you know you’re on camera all the time. It means you pay attention to how you’re going to look on camera,” said Cuban.
While Cuban isn’t happy Lamar’s gone — he told reporters at the press conference that he didn’t “get [his] money’s worth” out of the expensive trade — there are no hard feelings on his end. The business magnate called Lamar a “very talented basketball player” who “just went through some issues this year.”
In the end, the deal worked out for both sides. “I think the winners are us," Cuban said of the Mavericks at the conference. "He didn't want to play... Now we regroup and go forward.”
As for Lamar? Well, let’s just say he and Khloe wasted no time high-tailing it out of the Lone Star State. The reality princess is reportedly even planning a romantic getaway for her stressed-out hubby. With family and friends already celebrating their return to Cali, we think everything’s gonna be just fine.
