When something big happens — good or bad — you usually turn to your family. For Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, the happy news of their first pregnancy is saddened a bit by the reminder that they can’t share the excitement with all of their loved ones.

Kim's father, Robert Kardashian, died in 2003. Kanye's mother, Donda West, died in 2007.

Kanye announced Kim's pregnancy last night at his concert, and today Kim blogged about it for Celebuzz, writing, "It’s true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us."

She added that she was looking forward the "great new beginnings" in the new year. Tonight, Kim and Kanye should be in Las Vegas where she will reportedly be paid six figures to appear at a New Year’s Eve event. Perhaps Kimye will offer a (non-alcoholic) toast to the memory of their late parents and would-be grandparents. They are probably smiling down from above!
