The Kardashians

Kris Humphries

Kris Humphries is the ex-husband of Kim Kardashian and a forward for the New Jersey Nets.

Kris comes from a mixed-race family; his father is African American and his mother is caucasian. He has two sisters, Kaela, a runway model who we met on Season 6 of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and Krystal, who has yet to make her KUWTK debut.

Growing up, Kris was always athletic. His first love was swimming, and by age 10 he’d already nabbed himself the title of top 10 year old in 6 different swimming events. (He still holds one of those records for 10 year old boys!) He switched the style up when he turned 12, and began honing his basketball skills. Not that they needed much – Kris was a natural. While attending Hopkins High School, he received several prestigious awards and nominations for his bball skills, including Super 25 Basketball Team by USA Today and state player of the year by the Minneapolis Star Tribune. This Midwest teen’s life was anything but ordinary!

Later, he attended the University of Minnesota after turning down a scholarship offer from Duke University. He played for the school’s basketball team, and while many say he played well personally, the team wasn’t so great. Kris was then drafted to the NBA in 2004, joining the Utah Jazz. He also played for the Dallas Mavericks before eventually landing on the NJ Nets in January 2010.

Kris met socialite Kim Kardashian through New Jersey Nets teammate Jordan Farmar in December 2010. It was a whirlwind romance, with the 27-year-old proposing to Kim after only 6 months of dating. It was also a whirlwind divorce: Kim filed for divorce from Kris on October 31, 2011, after just 72 days of marriage.

The proposal – in which Kris got down on one knee in the socialite’s bedroom and slipped a 20.5-carat, $20 million ring on her finger – was captured on film and aired during the sixth season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. The couple shared vows during a lavish ceremony on August 20, 2011, which aired in October 2011 as its own 2-day special for E! titled Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event. The demise of Kim and Kris' marriage was the major dramatic plotline in Season 2 of Kourtney and Kim Take New York.
