The E! network recently announced that the two reality sisters would be filming a summer offshoot of Keeping Up With the Kardashians in the luxe New York vacation spot. And natives of Long Island’s East End are less than thrilled.
“There goes the #neighborhood,” one Twitter user complains. That hater wasn’t alone. Even the person behind the @DrunkInaGarten parody account weighed in on the news. “I will not let these Kardashians invade my kingdom... the HAMPTONS.” (Ina Garten is the Hamptons-based cook known for her Food Network show, Barefoot Contessa.)
We can’t say we’re entirely surprised by this backlash. Residents of the old money resort area aren’t likely to be keen on a bunch of reality TV cameras swarming the beaches or their luxe shopping districts, where the girls are said to be staging a pop-up for their DASH boutique.
Some businesses are even threatening to relocate rather than share a street with the Kardashians. Seems pretty short-sighted to us — the influx of looky-loos can only help traffic in their own shops, right?
Do you think these Hamptons residents have a right to be upset, or are they just being snobby? Be sure to check out the video above for even more reactions to the KUWTK spin-off!
