This spring, Dancing With the Stars is going to feel like a brand new show for everyone — including the pros.
The Season 18 cast will be revealed this coming Tuesday, but we've already heard some rumors about big changes in the pro lineup. Maksim Chmerkovskiy is reportedly back but we're not sure about some of our other faves. It sounds like Karina Smirnoff is in, though, which is good news since she's one of the longtime pros and the place wouldn't be the same without her. Speaking of not the same without her — Karina talked to USA Today about one of the most recent changes, the replacement of Brooke Burke-Charvet as co-host.
"Brooke has become not just our friend, but she's our family," Karina said. "When you do an interview with her, you feel like you're not on national TV. We will definitely miss Brooke. I hope she visits us." Brooke may need some time away from DWTS before visiting, since she was blindsided by being 1) fired, then 2) replaced by Erin Andrews. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba has also spoken out about the Brooke change, saying she was "floored."
Brooke didn't just arrive as co-host, she competed on Season 7 (and won), so pros like Karina got to know her first as one of the celeb competitors. But the same is true of Erin, who first competed on Season 10.
Karina still doesn't know which celeb she'll get as a partner for the spring 2014 season. She was fortunate enough to get her dream partner last fall in Season 17 runner-up Corbin Bleu. This time, she told USA Today, if she had to pick a partner she'd go with singer Jason Derulo. It would be great to have Jason in the cast, not just for his dancing but because it might bring in his girlfriend, American Idol's Jordin Sparks!
We'll find out Karina's new partner on March 4 when the new cast is announced. And when the show premieres on March 17 we'll have to check in with each other to see how we feel about the new band, the new co-host, the new cast, the new pro lineup, and everything else. Do you think it’s possible we'll be pleasantly surprised? What big change are you most upset, curious or excited about?
