Kat Graham Talks Playing “Idol” Jada Pinkett Smith in ‘All Eyez on Me’ (VIDEO)
Kat Graham isn’t just channeling her “idol,” she’s actually playing her!
“[Jada] is a pretty profound lady,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “[She’s] always forward thinking and an extremely powerful person.”
Here’s a little history lesson for ya: Tupac and Jada became friends after meeting at the Baltimore School for the Arts and their careers took off in the ‘90s at the same time. The rapper’s 1995 imprisonment was a speed bump for the friendship — there was never romance there — and they had a disagreement before his 1996 death.
“The most important thing to me is to capture the essence of their relationship, because they had such a complex and an incredibly dynamic friendship,” the 26-year-old continued.
The “1991” singer admitted she and Will Smith’s wife had a phone conversation about the upcoming movie and that the 44-year-old was “extremely supportive and a loving woman.” The two even bonded over their musical connection.
In fact, the mother of two made her on-screen portrayer cry when she said, “I trust you.”
“It’s nice to be trusted with something as profound as that, and I just want to do her justice,” the Swiss-born triple threat admitted.
All Eyez on Me hits theaters on November 11, 2016.
