Katherine Heigl Wanted to Quit Acting Because of Her Diva Reputation
Why? Hollywood seems to have branded her as “difficult,” and perhaps the viewing public picked up on that. Now the 38-year-old says all the bad press made her want to quit acting.
The reports of Katherine’s diva-like behavior started making headlines toward the end of her Grey’s Anatomy run — as she became a movie star who pulled in eight-figure paychecks.
In those turbulent years, she publicly complained about her long hours on Grey’s, she dissed the Grey’s writers as she withdrew her name for Emmy contention, and she railed against the sexism she perceived in her movie Knocked Up.
Now she tells the Press Association she considered quitting amid all those PR nightmares.
“Maybe everybody in their career feels that way, especially when you’ve been at it for a really long time,” she says, per the Belfast Telegraph. “You have these ups and downs and these ebbs and flows.”
“This thing you were once so passionate about and was your heart and soul has now turned on you, and it’s your mortal enemy instead of your best friend,” Katherine continues.
“I think that’s pretty typical of most people.”
The Unforgettable star says she has even analyzed her interviews to see how she’s coming off.
“Nobody wants to hear things like that about themselves,” she explains.
“One thing I think I’m relatively good at is asking myself and truly addressing, ‘Is there an issue here?
“You have to be accountable for your behavior. Now maybe I go a little too far in beating myself up, or self-evaluation, or not trusting my own instincts.”
These days, Katherine’s outlook seems different. She has expressed remorse about her Grey’s comments, and she’s even interested in a Knocked Up sequel.
“Wouldn’t that be fun?” the mother of three says.
“What do you think that looks like? [Ben and Alison] 10 years later. Do they have more children? Have they made it? Are they still together?”
Maybe Knocked Up 2 is exactly what Katherine’s career needs — she’s certainly been knocked down enough.
