Kathy Wakile Shares Big News About Her Dessert Line — Exclusive!

Turns out, there’s more to Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Kathy Wakile than just cannoli cream. Fresh off a to-die for family vacation in Italy this summer, Kathy recently visited Boston’s Little Italy where she was so inspired by the local pastry, she made a major decision about her own dessert line.

Speaking exclusively with Wetpaint Entertainment, Kathy shares the details of both trips.

“We went to Italy in July,” Kathy shares. “Just me, Richie, and the kids. We decided to go very last minute and when we arrived, we had only booked the first city. We were like the Griswolds, but it was fantastic. We stayed in one place as long as we felt like it and when we wanted to leave, we left.”

During their three week tour, the Wakiles hit up a bevy of areas big and small including Rome, Vienna, Florence, Naples, the Amalfi coast, and Capri.

“We ate everything, especially the gelato,” Kathy notes.

“We got recognized in the big cities,” she explains. “But not as much in the small ones, which was actually really nice. Just being there made me want to see what the Little Italy’s all over the country are like.”

Number one on her list: Boston. So last week, off she went. Says Kathy: “We had an amazing meal at Strega restaurant, then went to Mike’s pastry shop,” she reveals. “He’s been in business forever and he’s just so dedicated. We went straight to the kitchen and just talked and talked all about our shared love of sweets.”

The effects of both trips left her inspired. “Between all that gelato in Italy and my visit to Boston, I knew I wanted to expand my dessert line to be about more than just cannolis,” Kathy shares. “So I’m now working on a cookbook that will be about all desserts.”

But don’t expect guilt-ridden, out of control-sized confections. “Its all about mini desserts and portion control,” says Kathy. “Everything will be bite-sized.”

For now, she’s writing and testing recipes. Oh to be a bunny in her test kitchen! “I do reward my family with desserts,” she says. “But they need to give me their honest feedback in return.”

The book’s set to hit shelves in 2014. We can’t wait to try her creations!
