Kathy Wakile Opens Up About Daughter Victoria’s Brain Tumor – Exclusive
During Season 4 of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, Kathy Wakile briefly touched on one of the most harrowing experiences of her life: daughter Victoria’s brain tumor diagnosis many years back. These days, Kathy’s not only opening up more about that frightening time, she’s giving back to other families in the same boat. In an exclusive interview with Wetpaint Entertainment, she explains how.
Wetpaint: You’re the latest housewife to join the Wines by Wives club. What attracted you to it?
Kathy: It’s a great way to share your tastes with others and to help a charity. Part of the proceeds from my club will go to the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation.
Is that because of what happened to Victoria?
Yes. When Victoria was diagnosed with a brain tumor, it was completely unexpected. Thank god it was determined to be benign. She had surgery and recovered. So now, I feel like it’s our duty to give back and help the families that aren’t as lucky as we were.
What kind of work does the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation do?
They’re dedicated to raising awareness, giving money towards research and supporting families. They really try to help the families one-on-one and in a group setting by having these camps. The camps offer them a community and let them know they’re not alone out there. Things don’t always have to be so dark. There are others out there going through what you’re going through.
In addition to Wines by Wives, you’ve also got your cannoli kits. How are they selling?
They’re doing so well. I’m thrilled to be able to bring them to people. I grew up next to a bakery so getting fresh pastries was really easy for me. Today, you have to go to the grocery store and you don’t know how long it’s been sitting out. Cannolis really should be eaten within a few hours of the cream going in. With my kits, you get to make them fresh!
The Real Housewives of New Jersey airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
