Kathy Wakile Says Being Gay Isn’t a Curse, Wants RHoNJ to Raise Awareness

During Season 4 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Kathy Wakile’s sister, Rosie Pierri, came out to Kathy’s kids in a televised and emotional reveal. While Joseph and Victoria embraced Rosie with open arms, Kathy is well-aware that it hasn’t been as easy for others in a similar position.

Sure, Kath may find herself in the middle of the Jersey drama at times (she is related to both Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga afterall!) but ultimately she hopes RHoNJ will help knock down barriers for the gay community. We already know that we’re in for plenty of Rosie this season, and as Kathy tells RadarOnline, “The more we talk about it, the more people understand what it means to be gay — and it shows what someone has had to go through their whole life. Hopefully, we knock all those barriers down and open it up for people and they can understand that it’s not easy.”

Kathy, of course, was very accepting of her own sister and she doesn’t want other gay people to be ashamed of who they are. She wants the gay community to always remember, “It’s not a choice how I was born and this is the way that I live my life. And I’m still a good person. I still love. I still need to be loved. And I still have so much to offer. That’s not a curse, [and] it shouldn’t be a curse.”

Watching the dynamic between Kathy and Ro has always been one of favorite parts of RHoNJ, and now it’s so great to see Kathy becoming such a positive force for the gay community. Feel free to sound off on Kathy’s thoughts below!
