Katy Perry’s a busy girl these days.
Her newest release, Prism, drops October 22, and promises to be “more vulnerable and raw and stripped down.” And when we think about Katy’s life since her last album, Teenage Dream was released, we think of love — particularly her divorce from comedian Russell Brand and her current relationship with musician John Mayer. So naturally, we should expect Prism to be a lot about love, right?
Right. Katy sat down with Entertainment Tonight to discuss all things love — and how Prism explores how she’s found herself over the past couple of years.
“What I need is self-love, first and foremost,” Katy said. “I think everything follows in such a fantastic way after you have that love for yourself.”
And has Katy achieved that love this year? “I think maybe I did go through a little bit of a transition, a late twenties transition,” she said, laughing. “I’m ready for my thirties. It will be upon me after this record is finished. But I look forward to that — being a wise old sage in my thirties.”
And now that Katy’s seen the light, it influenced her album in many ways.
“The record title, Prism, comes from me letting the light in,” Katy explained. “It influenced all the songs that I got to write, and now I get to kind of share that light, beam that light. I really found who I am, who I was born into this world to be. Not having an identity crisis, but just knowing who I am and having love for myself in whichever way I come.”
We’re happy for Katy — and super excited to hear Prism later this month!
