Keke Palmer Opens Up on Depression, Same-Sex Dating (VIDEO)
Keke Palmer is on the rise in both Hollywood and the music scene. But as she shows her fun, sexy side with more adult music, the 22-year-old actress is also revealing she had some darker days in the past.
During an interview on with HOT97’s Nessa, the “I Don’t Belong to You” singer spoke about acting, preparing to write her first book, her new album — debuting this September. She also revealed something many didn’t know about her: her struggle with depression.
“As a child actor, you experience a lot of depression and anxiety … Yes, I went through depression and it was not comfortable. Yes, I struggle with anxiety and being paranoid, trying to figure out who I am. I still go through those things today,” she said.
The Illinois native made it clear she isn’t looking for a pity party, especially when she learned to combat her depression by reducing it to thoughts she could push out of her mind.
“These are thoughts that come into your head and they go,” Keke said. “You don’t have to cling to them. You don’t have to be afraid of them either. You can just want them past and you can decide how to want to move forward.
"These aren’t real limitations. At the end of the day, you decide who you want to be,” said the Scream Queens star.
In addition to speaking on her depression, the starlet also touched on her love life — revealing she doesn't have time for anything too serious, but she was dating and “having fun.”
When asked if she’d be open to a same-sex relationship, she spilled, “Absolutely. Absolutely. Where love is, that's where I'm going. That's what I'm about. It's not about all that other stuff. It's just about love. So if that's a guy, great. If that's a girl, great. It doesn't really matter to me.”
