Forget ‘American Idol,’ Kelly Clarkson Is Joining ‘The Voice’ For Season 14
Sorry, American Idol!
Though she won the first season of American Idol back in 2002, the “Since You’ve Been Gone” singer confirmed she’s joining the NBC show on Thursday, May 11.
"I'm so excited to join The Voice at NBC. We've gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn't been right until now,” she said in a statement.
“I have always loved appearing on the show as an adviser or performer and established an amazing relationship with the network during my Christmas special,” she continued.
“I can't wait to turn my chair and see the faces of up-and-coming artists and provide them with the help and support they've needed to break into the industry. Watch out Shelton, I'm comin' to win!!"
Blake Shelton even took to Facebook Live to share the exciting news with his fans.
“Hey! I’m finally not knocked up and I can join your show!” Kelly said to the 40-year-old on FaceTime.
“I know, my gosh, can you stop getting pregnant every five minutes please?” he joked back.
“I know I’m done having children, so now I can join The Voice. I’m excited. I’ve been excited. Blake was telling y’all I’ve been excited about this for a few years now … the timing hasn’t been right.”
This news comes just days after fellow American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson confirmed she’d be joining Season 13 of The Voice, replacing Alicia Keys.
