Kelly Ripa “Exploded” When Ryan Seacrest Pushed to Move ‘Live’ to L.A. — Report
Apparently, Kelly and Ryan are divided over whether to move the show from New York City to Los Angeles.
And Kelly might even quit, sources say!
Back on May 1, Kelly certainly appeared thrilled to welcome Ryan to the show.
“Ryan is a quintessential broadcaster and at the top of his game,” the 46-year-old said at the time.
“I am thrilled to start my mornings with him every day, and we are so fortunate at Live to have him join the family. Ryan is a close friend and his star shines as brightly off camera as it does on.”
Then returned a little show called American Idol.
The televised singing competition was Ryan’s claim to fame during its 15-year run on FOX; and on May 9, just a week after Ryan joined Live, ABC announced it was bringing the show back for the 2017-2018 TV season.
On June 20, Ryan and Kelly announced on Live that he would return as Idol host.
“You make that show,” Kelly told the 42-year-old emcee. “You are the heart and soul.”
Now, however, it seems like Kelly’s excitement has faded — all because Ryan reportedly wants to move Live to Hollywood.
If Live stays in New York City, Ryan would have to host Idol on Sunday nights and then board a red-eye flight from LAX to NYC to host Live on Monday morning.
So he’s angling to consolidate his duties… on the West Coast.
That would be a big point of contention since Kelly’s whole life is in the Big Apple.
“Kelly’s announced that if push comes to shove, she’s ready to walk,” a source close to the show told RadarOnline.com.
“Kelly’s given them an ultimatum — it’s her way or the highway!
“She feels that she was stabbed in the back over the whole Michael Strahan fiasco, and she’s not going to allow it to happen again!”
We don’t know if this gossip is true, but it would make sense, given Kelly’s NYC roots. Her home is there, her production company with husband Mark Consuelos is there, her kids are in school there.
So when executives suggested she move everything to Los Angeles, Kelly “exploded,” as sources tell the site.
“That’s when Kelly put her foot down and said, ‘No way!'” an insider close to Ryan says.
That said, Live might be moving to Los Angeles regardless.
Ratings have dropped since Ryan became co-host, and now network brass thinks a new home in L.A. would attract A-list guests to the show, Radar claims.
“Kelly feels once again the show that bears her name is being hijacked from her — which is what happened with Michael Strahan!” a source tells the site.
“Kelly quit the show once before and she’d do it again! When she was angry with ABC for favoring Michael, she refused to come to work for a week,” the same source says.
“Now that ABC is treating Ryan like royalty, Kelly could be gone for good. She’s very emotional and thinks with her heart, not her head. Kelly needs to think she’s the top priority.”
We bet she just wants Regis Philbin back — they certainly shared the Live desk just fine for 12 seasons!
