We all know that Kelly Rowland is an amazing singer and a fashion icon to be reckoned with, but there's so much more to know about the star! From her rise to fame in Destiny's Child to her possible engagement to manager Tim Witherspoon, Kelly has lived a fascinating life so far — and she's only 32.
From her early roots as a child pop star to her amazing career as an adult, here are seven things you need to know about The X Factor judge Kelly Rowland.
Kelly is short for Kelendria. Kelly's full name is Kelendria Trene Rowland.
She's an actress, too. After the success of Destiny's Child, Kelly appeared on multiple UPN shows, including The Hughleys and Eve, before guest starring on the NBC series American Dreams. Kelly hit the silver screen in the horror flick Freddy vs. Jason in 2003.
She's been making music with Beyoncé since she was a kid. There was a precursor to Destiny's Child: Girls Tyme! Kelly Rowland joined up with Beyoncé's girl group in 1992, along with original Destiny's Child members LaTavia Robinson and LeToya Luckett. Kelly even lived with the Knowles family for a while!
Girls Tyme eventually made it on the TV show Star Search, but lost out to some rock band called Skeleton Crew. We're not sure what they sounded like, but Girls Tyme won best dressed in our eyes, hands-down.

Kelly left Destiny's Child on good terms. Because Beyoncé and Kelly are both classy ladies, they thought they'd quit while everyone still got along. "After a lot of discussion and some deep soul searching," the band said in a statement, "we realized that our current tour has given us the opportunity to leave Destiny's Child on a high note, united in our friendship and filled with an overwhelming gratitude for our music, our fans, and each other.”
She's buddies with Miley Cyrus's rumored beau, Mike WiLL Made It. "I love Mike! He’s so silly and cool. He loves music and wants to make a difference," said Kelly in an interview with Fader. "[He's] so off-the-cuff and always trying to think of something to turn up. Turn up!"
She's been engaged before. Kelly is engaged to her manager Tim Witherspoon, and she’s been showing her bling off around town. Before Tim, though, she was engaged to Dallas Cowboys player Roy Williams. They called things off just a couple of weeks before their wedding date.
